Hudson Valley Hospice is starting an End-of-Life Doula Program. Just as a birth doula may bring greater comfort and deeper meaning to the process of labor and delivery, our end-of-life doulas offer the same for the process of dying. End-of-Life Doulas help a dying person and their loved ones plan for what they envision as a “good death”. They offer compassionate presence, knowing support, caring touch, and respite for caregiver in the final days. The End-of-Life Doula program at Hudson Valley Hospice will be an enhancement to the care and support that is provided to patients and their loved ones. “No one should die alone or in pain” said Michael Kaminski, President and CEO of Hudson Valley Hospice. “At Hudson Valley Hospice, we want to go above and beyond the typical hospice services to provide our patients with the best quality of living until the end of life.” End-of-Life (EOL) Doula volunteers will receive thorough training in understanding the dying process and in the skills that help bring peace and comfort to all involved. The agency is currently recruiting volunteers who are interested in becoming End-of-Life Doulas. Informational sessions are being offered in November in both Poughkeepsie and Kingston. The 20 hour Doula training will be scheduled for early next year. Hudson Valley Hospice is a non-profit agency which provides compassionate care and support services to individuals and their loved ones who are faced with a life-limiting illness. For more information about the Doula program, please call 845-485-2273, ext. 1124.
