Blueprint for Health Equity

Tuesday, September 26, 2017
8:30am - 3:45pm

The Blueprint for Health Equity is an opportunity for professionals in the fields of behavioral health, social services, government, law enforcement, education, healthcare, religious organizations, and others, to take a fresh look at the work of their organization through the eyes of the people they serve. This workshop will explore the social determinants of health through a health equity lens.

The day will open with a presenter who will discuss the structural causes of poverty, and explore the intersection of structural racism and poverty as social determinants of health. The presentation is followed by the Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS), led by Maternal Infant Service Network (MISN). This activity gives participants the unique opportunity to experience the day to day challenges of living in poverty. Participants will, with their assigned family, live out the role assigned to them for a total of four, fifteen minute weeks, allowing them to experience a full month living in poverty.

Our Keynote Speaker, Erika Bernabei, will further explore the social determinants of health, and the intersection of racial equity, data integrity, and results.

This workshop will be taking place on Tuesday, September 26th  from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm at the Student Union Building at the SUNY New Paltz campus at 1 Hawk Dr. in New Paltz, NY.
